30.10.09 - Today several of the children, and one mum, took part in a really fun activity. We needed lots of big pieces of paper, felt pens, material, a stapler and glue.

We drew around everyone who wanted to make a stuffed person and then decorated them by painting faces and making clothes. Then we cut them out, stapled and stuffed them with scrap paper or newspaper. It was really interesting to see what size we all are!

16.10.2009 - Our garden has taken off! Look at how well the herb garden is doing in the wine barrel!

The lemon tree is growing well. We’ve planted nasturtium seeds under it. Our garlic is getting tall. We’ll plant tomatoes with the garlic when the weather warms up a bit more.

In the long vege beds we have lettuces, rainbow chard, and some more herbs growing. We planted some peas but they haven’t come up.

The strawberries went CRAZY after we mulched them with pine needles from Botle Lake Forest - they stood straight up to attention!

The blueberries have lots of blossom and seem happy where they are. The cranberries are doing ok, but we may need to move them in the summer as they are a bit fragile and don’t like being bumped by the bikes. We could move them to the feijoa forest.

The creeping majoram has settled in to the tyre planter and soon it’ll make a lovely place to sit.

04.08.2009 - Lesley from Sow and Grow visited us on session and showed us all kinds of vegetables that we can grow in our gardens at Playcentre, and at home.  We looked at how vegetables grow, talked about how important it is to wash them before we prepare them for eating - remembering to wash our hands too!

At the end of the session some of the children pretended to be seeds sprouting into plants.

Lesley gave us a presant of some seeds in our own seed box - nice huh?!

We really enjoyed her visit, she was so enthusiastic and engaging. Everyone should have a visit from Lesley!
